MISSION GRD is a volunteer organization dedicated to: Providing high-quality housing and maintenance for gerbils that are unable to stay at shelters, with the objective of placing them into suitable homes; Educating the public about gerbil characteristics, and their physical, emotional and mental needs; Cultivating an appreciation of gerbils as pets, and promoting gerbil adoption.

Why are we named Gerbil Rehoming rather than Rescue? With sincere respect for those animal organizations that identify themselves as rescues, we offer this explanation regarding our name: Rescue means deliverance from danger or harm.  Certainly the term applies in some instances.  We find that there are also many good pet owners who give up their pets for one reason or another.  Stating that we "rehome" rather than "rescue" helps alleviate the feelings of guilt and inadequacy that sometimes accompany the surrender of an animal.

A NOTE TO PARENTS: The number one reason gerbils wind up in rescue or in shelters: The kids wanted them, but aren't taking care of them. If you agree to allow your children to keep gerbils, please assume that at some point, care of the gerbils will fall to you. It is simply in the nature of most children to lose interest fairly quickly in things, including the pets for which they so eagerly beseeched you.  If you are not willing to assume care of the gerbils, it is far better for all involved to refrain from obtaining the animals in the first place.
